Schermerhorn blog post #4

A drink with the ability to make your life into an adventure seems empowering. A drink that can flow through your body, from your head to toes, overwhelming the body with that good, free, and optimistic feeling seems extraordinary. A drink that turns an ordinary day into a day that the world is a place of full of happiness is remarkable. This is Lipton Tea. Well, at least this is how it is portrayed in its advertisement. Humans strive to be happy, healthy, and daring. The world is engulfed with so many negative affairs it slips in to the lives of everyone.  As Aart Van Der Leeuw once said “The mystery of live is a problem to be solved but a reality to be experienced.” In the Lipton Tea advertisement the maker is suggesting a way to escape the everyday routine of life and escape into a world of pure happiness nothing more nothing less.
The music played throughout engages the mind to feel “good.” The beat is positive, almost uplifting. The rhythm makes the listener want to move, get active. The woman’s voice first grabs the attention of a female, because we are expecting her to say something geared toward women, but the way she speaks it toward a man. Her voice is serene yet has this tone of being strong, she says, “I belong, to all that I’ve been through.” This way the commercial grabs both the female and males attention. The upbeat song sets the mood for the rest of the commercial, allowing the viewer to get the mind set of happiness and sink into the advertisement allowing them to take a breath from their everyday routine; just like the girl is doing in the add.
The woman is a model, tall, thin, has perfect hair, and an earthy look about her. Her clothes are casual and simple yet stylish compared to everyone else wearing suites, conforming to their everyday routine. This also appeals to both men and women. It appeals to women because majority of women strive to look as she does; just simple, yet perfect. It appeals to a man senses because she is, well, hot. Men see her as something they can’t have yet the male comes up to her whipping her away on his motorcycle. This gives men hope that if more women drink Lipton Tea more women will be up for any adventure.
As she is drinking the tea her body begins to turn into a pallet of leaves, water and light, almost as if she is glowing of happiness. A look of fulfillment and delight come upon her face as if it is the best day of her life. The music then becomes more upbeat and brisker. She then released a butterfly, representing celebration, lightness, and transition; the transition into becoming a free spirit. This is something everyone wants in life, the ability to just live and not worry about work, road construction, and traffic. Lipton Tea gives you this. She begins to walk across the street and spots a male on a scooter. This once again appeals to both female and male audiences in the fact that women will be drawn to his gorgeous facial features and males will have hope that they could swift, a woman like her, away.
They both look free, free to the world around them. They pass a little girl with a face mask on. This little additive creates such a large part to this commercial. Masks are a way to hide the true self, as if it protects you. The little girl looks at the woman on the scooter admiring her beauty and glowing ways; take away by the majestic woman and man with pure happiness on their faces. The little girl is the only person in the entire city crowed that even acknowledge this beauty, everyone else is immersed into their routine. The woman on the scooter waves to the little girl showing her compassion and enjoyment. This is now the little girl role model in the fashion of the way to live life as an adventure.
They begin driving away on the scooter out of the city and the narrator says, “With the goodness of fresh picked tea leaves, water, and sunshine.” As she says this they go through a tunnel and on the other side there is a beautiful mountain seen with the ocean, giving the viewer a since of awe. This pureness is now radiating not only through the woman but thorough her surroundings as well. This feeling of “good” becomes stronger. The narrator explains why she is glowing and full of tea leaves and water, this is all the tea consists of pure ingredients. Before the viewer can make an assumption about the tea being natural and good for you the narrator says, “New 100% natural Lipton Ice Tea.”
